The interaction between Jack and the Baker when he ends with "Don't ask me questions I cannot answer!" is so raw. How often do we still struggle with breaking the cycles of violence and retribution and grief?
You think this is good? Try her performance of this at the Met in the early 90's. Most stunning performance I've ever witnessed! I was floored!!! Her upper register pealed the paint off of the wall. Trust me. I was there!
She also did the the speaking recitative in a lower voice which was more effective than here. Then I met her, lovely kind soul!
And she's so tiny, pocket rocket!!!!
Clap I forgot I don't like b&w
3:30 - 3:32 -- WOW!
Caí en un bucle con esta canción ❤
Is Kim Criswell the redheaded woman? Her vocal tones are scrumptious: deep, pure, mellow! What mastery and talent!
So they just go around finding princesses that are unconscious, death or guarded until they found one they could actually reach? And married too 😂😂
ALBERICH leise. ALBERICH.
disney princes are better than those 2
Luminous
This opera is awesome I’ll make a animated film of this opera :3
Legends, both🎉
The Incel anthem!
After seeing many princes delightfully in on the jokes in this song, it's wonderful to see this scene from the original production where the actors play the emotions with total truth.
Que triste historia... Gran interpretación...
The best conductor in whole music history, technically
The lyrics for anyone who needs them (I do lol) Did I abuse her Or show her disdain? Why does she run from me? If I should lose her How shall I regain The heart she has won from me? Agony! Beyond power of speech When the one thing you want Is the only thing out of your reach High in her tower She sits by the hour Maintaining her hair Blithe and becoming And frequently humming A lighthearted air: Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah Agony! Far more painful than yours When you know she would go with you If there only were doors Agony! Oh, the torture they teach! What's as intriguing Or half so fatiguing As what's out of reach? Am I not sensitive, clever Well-mannered, considerate Passionate, charming As kind as I'm handsome And heir to a throne? You are everything maidens could wish for! Then why no? Do I know? The girl must be mad You know nothing of madness 'Til you're climbing her hair And you see her up there As you're nearing her All the while hearing her "Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah" Agony! Misery! Woe! Though it's different for each Always ten steps behind Always ten feet below And she's just out of reach Agony That can cut like a knife! I must have her to wife
Adorable ending <3
Semi autobiographical. Bernstein's father 's name was indeed Sam. Dinah wasnt his mother's name but it WAS his grandmother's name. Hey in this version they actually quarrel within earshot of Junior.
Me and bro talking about game (there not interested)
this is definitely sped up slightly, but I can't tell by how much
Bravissima!!!
Raina k
I'm drunk right now and this song makes me cryso damn much

ah dude, the whole 747 sequence is why i love planes so much, peak human engineering
Great! 😎🎹
She was not only Beautiful. But also a great actress
The 2014 movie was ruined by Disney. So much if the comedy was removed.
Szell had a fearsome reputation among orchestral players ( almost on par with Fritz Reiner) but there's a genial side to him here. He picks his words very carefully.
This is very similar to the power of evil now in Russia
I saw him as Peter Grimes. His acting was amazing and the voice was probably the most powerful I’ve heard and that includes James Morris.
Saw him sing this live at the Garden back in the 80s. Phenomenal! I had never seen this opera before at the time and when the apprentice fell from the ladder I nearly died with him....Vickers was intense, powerfully moving in this superb production. But this monologue is SOOOOO difficult - almost completely a capella - and requiring superlative acting as well. And superb singing from the chorus also, I might add.
my favorite version of this operetta !!!
Mine too, so bubbly, I have a DVD... Domingo was fun to watch when he was conducting and there was even Funiculi Funicula in the jail cell :)
Anvils sound like Minecraft sound
those harmonies they did with the repunzel "ah ah ah" melody is so incredible, it really sets the tone for act 2 of the show
0:26 Bottle 2 🍾🍾
Nous avons toujours su comment ça finirait This is the end
“just remember someone is on your side, our side someone else is not and while we’re seeing our side maybe we forgot: they are not alone, no one is alone”
Back when this was being shown on TV when it was new, I wondered how there could be an illuminated blinking sign for Winston in prehistoric times when they didn’t have electricity yet.
I and my twin brother are the princes in our schools production of into the woods. I am playing Rapuzels prince and my twin is playing Cinderellas and we just love this song.
